Job Description
The Production Field Foreman oversees daily field operations, managing a team of operators, technicians, and contractors. You are responsible for the optimization of production assets, the maintenance of equipment, and the strict enforcement of safety protocols. It’s a high-stakes balancing act: you need to keep the output high, the costs low, and the crew out of harm’s way.
This role usually requires being “on-call” and demands a mix of technical troubleshooting and high-level people management.
Responsibility
- Monitoring daily volumes and performance metrics to ensure the field is hitting its "numbers." If a well or machine goes down, you're the one coordinating the fix.
- Supervising, training, and mentoring Lease Operators, Pumping crews, and Maintenance technicians.
- Enforcing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and environmental protocols to prevent spills, leaks, or workplace injuries.

- Reviewing and approving field expenses, managing chemical or parts inventories, and finding ways to reduce Operating Expense (LOE).
- Hiring and supervising specialized third-party vendors for tasks like workovers, drilling, or facility repairs.
- Mentoring junior staff, scheduling shifts, and managing third-party contractors to ensure work is done to specification.
Qualifications
- Typically 5–10 years of hands-on experience in field operations (e.g., as a Lead Pumper or Production Technician).
- A High School Diploma is required; however, an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Technology, Engineering, or Business is increasingly preferred.
- Deep understanding of artificial lift systems (Rod pumps, ESPs, Gas lifts).
- Valid Driver’s License (clean record), Well Control certification, and often H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) safety training.
- Strong "thick-skin" leadership, the ability to make high-pressure decisions, and clear communication skills for reporting to executives.
